Overview
A character design and line art project combining meme-based expression with long-term storytelling potential, exploring how an IP can evolve from simple emotional communication to broader narrative systems.

Context
Shenjinglong started as something much lighter than my other work –
a space where I allow myself to be playful, messy, and slightly absurd.
While working on more structured and reflective projects,
I realised I also needed a space that felt effortless:
something that didn’t require too much explanation,
something that could move quickly, respond to moments,
and simply exist as a form of expression.
At the same time, I was curious:
can an IP begin from something almost casual,
and gradually evolve into a system that holds stories, identity, and personal and collecive value?
What I Do
– Design and develop the Shenjinglong character and its visual language
– Create expressive, line-based illustrations with minimal colour
– Produce meme-like and everyday emotional expressions
– Experiment with how a character can function across platforms (e.g., message app stickers)
– Explore how a lightweight, humorous IP can expand into narrative and cultural layers
Current Output
– A set of 16 WeChat sticker expressions capturing everyday emotions
– Additional seasonal sticker releases (New Year, Spring Festival, Year of the Horse)
– Official IP registration
– A growing collection of character designs and expressive variations

Ongoing
Shenjinglong continues to exist as a more instinctive and flexible part of my practice.
I am exploring how it can move between:
– casual expression and structured storytelling
– personal projection and shared cultural symbols
– simple line drawings and larger narrative systems
It is also where I begin to test what it means for an artistic practice to become something that can circulate, connect, and potentially sustain itself.
